Supplies & Setup

  • Sensory Bin

  • Paper

  • Paint

  • Acorns

Instructions

  1. Go on a nature walk with your little ones and collect a pail of acorns.

  2. Once you’re back home, lay a piece of paper flat inside your sensory bin. Optionally tape it down if you find it moves around too much.

  3. Have your little one place a few dots of paint onto the paper.

  4. Place a bunch of acorns inside the bin and let your little one shake it around to “paint” with the acorns!

Fun Tip!
Have your little one give the trucks a “car wash” afterwards for a second activity that helps you clean up!

What will they learn?

  1. Creativity: They'll explore new ways to create art by using natural materials as paintbrushes.

  2. Fine Motor Skills: Holding and manipulating the acorns to paint helps toddlers develop their hand-eye coordination, grip strength, and precision in their movements.

  3. Sensory Exploration: Feeling the texture of the acorns and observing the different patterns they create as they are dipped in paint enhances sensory awareness and exploration.

  4. Nature Appreciation: Engaging with natural materials like acorns fosters a connection to the natural world, encouraging toddlers to appreciate and explore their environment.
